That sounds like a really interesting symposium. Need to watch the full. I love some of the ideas that you tease out. I have to admit that I’m skeptical of claims of synesthesia, not that it doesn’t exist, but more that it seems like it’s a free pass to creativity/authority. I try to interrogate any synesthetic thought I have or think I have.
That sounds like healthy skepticism. Many people mentioned that there is not one universal translation between the senses, and I think that is absolutely where apprehension should exist. I did think what Andreas said about combining sensory inputs which are contradictory was particularly interesting. I never thought about designing tension through subverting synaesthetic tropes. Fascinating! If you do watch, let me know. I would be curious to know your thoughts or any responses.
I really enjoyed the symposium. Thanks for posting. I think my take aways were the power of contradiction in scent art and subverting expectations. I also like the talk about the practical aspects about executing their work. Of course, I want to know more about your scent “keyboard.” Also liked your comment re: scent being similar to drone music, a connection I’ve been exploring.
If you have any other events, due post before or after.
Sorry for the delay in response. I definitely was interested in the same. I would love to know what you have been exploring. I have nothing planned right now, but will most definitely share as things start forming.
Re: drones. I’ve been creating short simplistic drones, found sounds, samples to accompany my reviews and some of my own creations. It’s another way to think about fragrance. It’s not formalized or skilled in any way, but just another outlet.
